Excuse me if I get really SWEET on ya, but this week’s 411 Monday we’re talking about about sweets!

The Yum Diaries: Entry #3 — Sweets.

One of the most memorable moments of a wedding reception is the cutting of the wedding cake. There’s either tender love as the couple feeds each other bits of the cake they chose, or hilarity as they smash it in each other’s faces. Either way, that moment happens to be one of my favorites. However, it can’t be done until you find a great cake!

Having sweets aren’t limited to weddings, though! There’s also birthdays, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, and corporate events that will have everyone giddy for the sugar rush.

When you’re searching for sweet treats for your event, there’s so many options to pick from! (You don’t need to stick to cake for your event if something else calls to you more.)

A few other sweets that could make your event pop:

  1. Cake Pops or Cupcakes (They’re still in the realm of cake, but have a twist!)
  2. Cookies
  3. Personalized Candy (You know those cute little Kisses you can get with your event name and date on ‘em? AW!)
  4. Brownies
  5. Dessert Shooters (Filled with the most delicious layers of goodness, it’s often an elegant option that pleases the senses!)

Whether you’re getting cake or another specialty treat, make sure to find someone that’s going to execute the vision for your event. You’re going to do your homework (as you would with any caterer) and speak with them to see why you should hire them for your event.

A couple things to keep in mind:

Do a tasting! Confectioners may require a small deposit to hold a tasting for you, but oftentimes you get to try so many flavor combinations, and if you decide to go with them for your event, it normally comes off your bill!

Fillings, flavors, frostings — Before you schedule the tasting, make sure they’re able to accommodate your vision for your sweets. If you want jelly-filled cupcakes for your birthday party, make sure to ask if they do fillings! (Sometimes, they don’t!)

Pricing: Is there a base price (a minimum price) for you to secure their services for the date of your event? Is a deposit required, and how much? Do they charge by the number of guests or flat rate?

Delivery or pick up? Do they have an option for delivery to your event? Or will you have to send someone to go pick up the sweets? (I recommend opting for delivery every time. Driving in a car with a cake that could fall over is an absolute NIGHTMARE! I’ve done it twice.)

Whichever you decide to do, make sure to enjoy every sweet on your event day! You deserve it.

This wraps up 411 Monday: The Yum Diaries series! Use all the information to help secure the best of the best for your event.

Next 411 Monday, we’ll start talking about how to start planning your own event during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Stay tuned for tips and tricks!
